DENT 202 Oral Health.
(8) Anatomy, growth and development of the oro-facial region, including the teeth, composition and function of saliva, the normal oral microflora and some physiology in relation to the oro-facial complex.
DENT 203 Oral Disease.
(4) Caries, periodontal, pulpal and periapical diseases from their etiology to their detection, craniofacial dysmorphology and growth and development problems.
DENT 204D1 (12.5), DENT 204D2 (12.5) Management of Oral Disease.
(Students must register for both DENT 204D1 and DENT 204D2.) (No credit will be given for this course unless both DENT 204D1 and DENT 204D2 are successfully completed in consecutive terms) Principles of oral medicine and radiology and pre-clinical training in operative dentistry, fixed and removable prosthodontics and orthodontics, preparing students for treating patients.
DENT 205D1 (1.5), DENT 205D2 (1.5) Dental Public Health 1.
(Students must register for both DENT 205D1 and DENT 205D2.) (No credit will be given for this course unless both DENT 205D1 and DENT 205D2 are successfully completed in consecutive terms) Principles of public health, behavioural sciences, communication skills, ethical and legal issues relevant to clinical practice, including health education and health promotion, disease prevention, epidemiology and biostatistics, healthcare systems, access to care and evidence-based health care.
DENT 215D1 (1), DENT 215D2 (1) Tooth Movement.
(Students must register for both DENT 215D1 and DENT 215D2) (No credit will be given for this course unless both DENT 215D1 and DENT 215D2 are successfully completed in consecutive terms) (Restriction: Open to D.M.D. students only) Introduction to the basic concepts of Orthodontics and management of malocclusions with extensive laboratory and clinical activities.
DENT 217 Foundations of Dentistry.
(7) (Restriction: Open to D.M.D. students only) Introduction of the head and neck anatomy, growth, development of the oral-facial complex, and glands. It also deals with the basic sciences of pain, hard tissues, cariology, and infection control. Extensive head and neck anatomy laboratory work.
DENT 218D1 (1), DENT 218D2 (1) Support Tissue.
(Students must also register for DENT 218D2) (No credit will be given for this course unless both DENT 218D1 and DENT 218D2 are successfully completed in consecutive terms) (Restriction: Open to D.M.D. students only) Introduction to the normal and diseased pathways of periodontal structures. Clinical exercises on how to assess periodontal health.
DENT 220D1 (6.5), DENT 220D2 (6.5) Introduction to Restorative Dentistry.
(Students must also register for DENT 220D2) (No credit will be given for this course unless both DENT 220D1 and DENT 220D2 are successfully completed in consecutive terms) (Restriction: Open to D.M.D. students only) Introduction to pre-clinical dental activities including training in restorative dentistry, fixed prosthodontics, and operative dentistry. Extensive laboratory work in a pre-clinical dental setting is involved.
DENT 221D1 (2.5), DENT 221D2 (2.5) Tooth Loss.
(Students must also register for DENT 221D2) (No credit will be given for this course unless both DENT 221D1 and DENT 221D2 are successfully completed in consecutive terms) (Restriction: Open to D.M.D. students only.) Introduction to the concept of edentulism, including both partial and complete restorative solutions for edentulous spaces within the oral cavity. Extensive laboratory and clinical components are involved.
DENT 222D1 (1), DENT 222D2 (1) Radiology.
(Students must also register for DENT 222D2) (No credit will be given for this course unless both DENT 222D1 and DENT 222D2 are successfully completed in consecutive terms) (Restriction: Open to D.M.D. students only.) Physics and biologic effects of radiation, radiation protection, imaging principles and techniques and radiographic interpretation of caries, periodontal and periapical disease.
DENT 224D1 (2), DENT 224D2 (2) Transition to Clinic.
(Students must also register for DENT 224D2) (No credit will be given for this course unless both DENT 224D1 and DENT 224D2 are successfully completed in consecutive terms) (Restriction: Open to D.M.D. students only) Introduction to the clinical environment following preclinical work, including the implementation of theoretical knowledge of different areas of dentistry while addressing patient care, infection control, and anesthetics needs.
DENT 225D1 (1.5), DENT 225D2 (1.5) Oral Health Research.
(Students must also register for DENT 225D2) (No credit will be given for this course unless both DENT 225D1 and DENT 225D2 are successfully completed in consecutive terms) (Restriction: Open to D.M.D. students only) Developing familiarity with oral health research, from research design to hands on experience in conducting research with relevance to clinical dental training.
